In celebration of YOUTH ART MONTH, RAC will celebrate the visual and performing arts in our community, featuring over 100 pieces of art from Monument Valley Middle School, Monument Mountain High School, Mt. Everett School, Berkshire Country Day School.Including excerpts from Monument Mountain High School's musical, "Into The Woods" and dance performances by Renaissance Art Center students.
When coming to the area as a new resident, I knew that the southern Berkshires were full of culture. But I had no idea that I would soon want to go beyond my passive consumption of Norman Rockwell’s paintings or Tanglewood’s music. The call of my inner artist was loud, and I was very happy that I found just the right place to address this calling: the Renaissance Arts Center.
With some experience in drawing, I chose to challenge myself and signed up for a class in “Watercolor”. The beautiful, sunlit space of the arts center proved just as the right environment to evoke my creative potential. And, once the basics were clear, my dedicated teacher, Pat Navarino, made sure to take me out of my comfort zone with ever challenging assignments. I sweated and laughed – and in the end was proud of the paintings I produced, knowing that it takes the right people to help you bring your creativity to life.
Lilly's passion for art has blossomed at Renaissance Art Center. She has grown into a true artist at RAS - having learned techniques, art forms and most importantly confidence in herself and her work. Thanks to Patricia, Nick, Nicole and their team of incredible staff artists.
My daughter, Ruby, is blossoming as an artist with the guidance and support of Renaissance Arts Center. She started with them when the program was just beginning, taking one-on-one classes with Patricia. Ruby's involvement with Renaissance has grown as the program has developed, and today she takes multiple classes with a remarkable group of teachers. Walking into RAC, a beautiful space where fabulous student- and teacher-created art is everywhere, one instantly gets the feeling that this is a place where individual creativity is celebrated. Each artist's unique vision is nurtured and honed so that two people in a class can work on a similar project and have two totally different -- and equally fabulous -- results. As a parent, it also feels like a blessing that Renaissance takes the headache out of developing a portfolio, helping their artists apply for an advanced summer camp program or college. The teachers take each student's dream seriously and they help make a career in the arts a real possibility for each person who comes in the door. It is a joy to be part of Renaissance.
